Day 42 - Master Cylinder Arrives!!!

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Today, thanks to a very, very kind person (fattimas) on Oz Clubbies, I received an Escort Master Cylinder through the post.  It’s great to find a group of people who all have the same goal helping each other!!  Again, thanks fattimas - your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Day 40 - Visit to Autobarn

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Just when I thought I’d visited every type of auto store known to man - up pops Autobarn!!  Again, I was like a kid in a candy store - although, now I’m learning to show a little more restraint.  Either way, I picked up another tie rod end (TE422R) and a pair of axle stands.  Nearly bought a trolley jack, but would rather have one that will not only jack up the puma, but will also work with the 4wd.

Day 37 - Let the Cleaning Begin….

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Well today I started in earnest with the angle grinder and a wire wheel cleaning the hubs.  Below you will see a picture of the before and after.

Day 36 - Air Compressor & Tools

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

Today I went to Super Cheap Auto for a look around and came home again with a 2.5hp 40L Air Compressor, an Air Tool set and a 30m Air hose.  I feel like I’m turning into “Tim the Toolman”.

Day 32 - Got Uprights & Diff Brackets Today

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

Thanks to another Puma builder, I have managed to swap a pair of TE Cortina uprights and diff brackets for a slab of beer!! Not a bad swap if you ask me.

Day 31 - Complete Hub to Hub Axle & Diff (3.7)

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

Well now we are rocking and rolling with getting parts!!!  This morning, I collected my complete rear axle from Confederate Motors in Adelaide.  Then later this afternoon the family all went on a special outing to “Super Cheap Auto”.  The kids weren’t very excited, but I was like a kid in a candy store.  Managed to pick-up (1) Tie Rod End on special at $8.00 for my steering rack and will have to source the other one later.  I gather, they are normally around $30 each if done under a special order.

Boy have I got some cleaning to do - there’s the rear axle, front brakes, calipers and backing plates.   What’s more, I have to find somewhere to put all the bits because the garage and drive-way are being prepared for concrete on Monday.  Talk about busy!!

Day 28 - More Parts Acquired!!

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Today, my husband and I went to U-Pull It at Elizabeth and retrieved a complete handbrake assembly, front discs/hubs, backing plates and calipers.  Am still on the hunt for diff/axle - but that’s okay, there’s always tomorrow.

Day 26 - Chassis Ordered Today!!

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Yeah ha, today I went to visit John Karnon, the ‘Puma’ man and ordered my chassis!!! There’s no turning back now!

Day 20

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Went to Super Cheap Auto today and bought a pair of lower ball joints - I know it’s not much - but it’s atleast another bit to add to the collection.
